True. But, Frollo was obsessed... I've always liked him- He didn't deserve to die.

Hmm... Frollo had it coming to him. After all he killed Esme in the end, or was very much responsible for it. If he had been found out for stabbing Phobeus he would have been hanged anyway.

I still like him. Poor soul. His obsession with religion was a contribution to his demise, as well. But I could never imagine him and Esmeralda togther.

Hmm... I did like him for being so kind to Quasi and his brother but what he did wasn't exactly "clever".
He didn't give poor Esme much choice. Live or die. Be his or simply die.

Yes, that's true. I think it's because the BatB story has been around for AGES and a lot of modern works borrow from it.

Since I'm a juvenille brute, I haven't read the actual novel so I would greatly apperciate it if people filled me in on some info about it. Of course I've see the Disney verison, but I don't think that they're too simalar.
How did Esmerlda die BTW?

Esmeralda is executed by Frollo (she is hanged), then enraged Quasimodo kills him and takes her body. Years ago gravedigger finds Esmeralda's body and Quasi's skeleton is curled around her. If you want to, there is beautiful song from Europian musical 'Notre Dame de Paris', called 'Danse, mon Esmeralda'.

*gasp* Ooooooooooh that's gruesome. And sad. Morbidly enough, that sounds like my kind of book.

It's great. Maybe some descriptions are bit too long, but it's great nonetheless. Frollo is more of 'anti-hero' (sometimes he seems to be a little bit like Erik) and Phoebus is... uh... don't like him. He had a fiancee all the time, he even comes with her to Esmeralda's execution. Not nice. Quasimodo is wilder than the Disney version. I love Gringoire, Esmeralda's accidental husband.

Yes, it's such a sad ending.
After she is hung, Quasimodo flies into a rage, slamming his head off of walls and saying "All that I ever loved it gone!", etc. etc. And then he hurls Frollo from the peak of Notre Dame, like in the cartoon. He then, as was already said, goes to the pauper grave and curls up with the corpse and died with it. It's so tragic. When the cemetery workers, years later, find the corpses and try to separate them, they crumble to dust, making it ironic and significant: they can't exist without the other.
I suggest reading the novel, and perhaps seeing the musical, or listening to it, by Dennis DeYoung. I could send you the soundtrack! It has such amazing songs.

I'd like that! I'll see if my local library has a copy of it too.
